New CSF OEM+ Performance Air Conditioning Evaporator for Porsche 964/993

Given the positive response to the product line for air-cooled Porsche models and the success of the recently released #8325 air conditioning condenser for the 964/993, CSF continues its mission to overhaul the entire air conditioning system of your 964 and 993.

CSF proudly presents the OEM+ air conditioning evaporator for the Porsche 964 and 993. This modern solution optimizes your 911's air conditioning system, enhancing your driving pleasure. As CSF's first modern performance evaporator product, it fulfills the desire of the global Porsche community for a high-quality alternative to the original equipment.

Over the years, many owners of these legendary 1990s Porsche models find that their original air conditioning systems no longer meet the requirements. Leaky, clogged, corroded, or inefficient evaporators are unfortunately not uncommon. Even when functioning perfectly, old and new original evaporators tend to blow white flakes/dust particles into the interior due to oxidation and corrosion. Furthermore, the original evaporator is designed for the refrigerant R12, not the modern R134a. This means that the original evaporator in 993s and 964s converted to R134a operates less efficiently.

Design & Development

CSF has decades of experience in the design and manufacture of air conditioning condensers and has used this expertise to develop its first high-performance evaporator. Most factory-installed air conditioning evaporators from the 1980s and 1990s are outdated in terms of design and materials. They were originally designed for the refrigerant R12, which offered significantly higher performance than today's more environmentally friendly R134a. Even brand-new OEM evaporators are not efficient enough to guarantee the required temperature differential with R134a. This is where CSF comes in.

CSF engineers have once again applied modern design and manufacturing techniques to this classic Porsche evaporator. Working closely with Motorsport Inc. as a development partner, CSF was able to test, measure, and develop the new evaporator using both old and new OE units, as well as a discontinued Griffiths evaporator as a reference. Test assembly was carried out in the complete HVAC case, kindly provided by the Motorsport Inc. team.

The result is an evaporator that fits perfectly, significantly outperforms the factory system, and costs less than a new OEM unit. According to tests, the CSF evaporator withstood and sealed twice as well as the original parts or the discontinued Griffiths units. Improved sealing means greater airflow across the evaporator and therefore better air conditioning performance.

CSF vs. OEM

The new evaporator for the 964/993 features a modern dual-core parallel-flow design. Parallel-flow evaporators are significantly more efficient than older serpentine-flow evaporators, such as those used in the original equipment parts for the 964 and 993. These new cores are equipped with CSF's super-high-pressure multi-channel micro-tube for optimal flow and maximum contact area.

The CSF evaporator also features a corrosion-resistant powder coating, eliminating oxidation and corrosion. Corrosion and oxidation are the cause of the frequently occurring white flakes/dust particles that emerge from the air vents of the 964 and 993.

No More White Flakes

For the first 25 years or so after the introduction of the 964, the original Behr/Mahle evaporators were factory-coated with a corrosion protection coating. Over time, this coating wore off, leading to corrosion and oxidation of the evaporators. Normally, a factory replacement would ensure many more years of trouble-free operation. However, due to environmental regulations, the factory-applied, transparent corrosion protection coating for evaporators has been prohibited for about the last five years. Therefore, new original equipment (OE) parts are no longer supplied with a factory coating.

Without a coating, a new OE evaporator immediately begins to oxidize and corrode. Many owners and vehicle manufacturers have experienced their air conditioning systems failing completely within a few months of installing brand-new OE units. This problem affects both ambitious DIYers and the most renowned Porsche restoration companies.

The CSF evaporator was developed to permanently solve this problem. Its corrosion-resistant powder coating provides optimal protection against oxidation and corrosion.
